Reiki in Gdansk
What is Reiki?
This page covers reiki Gdańsk sessions with me, Edward Bateman, including what to expect and how to book.
Reiki can be described as a non-invasive, biofield therapy to help the body’s natural relaxation response. Reiki is not a “cure” or treatment for any specific diseases, but it can be used along side medical care and it may improving the patient’s quality of life, reducing the perception of pain, and lowering anxiety.
Mikao Usui discovered Reiki after a 21 day meditation on Mount Kurama. It involves the transfer of “universal life energy” through the hands of the practitioner to promote healing and well-being. (There is no evidence that this energy exists).
What a Reiki session involves?
During a reiki session, the patient remains fully dressed, and relaxes on the treatment couch. I stand and place my hands either on or just above certain parts of the body, we will discuss what you prefer before starting a session. Some people report feeling subtle sensations of temperature change or “buzzing”, other don’t feel anything. The main objective is for you as the patient to have a relaxing session, without any demand or expectations. Sessions can last from 20 minutes to an hour. Appointments can be booked directly online by clicking on the button/link.
I do not charge for reiki, but ask that you pay what you can, and I donate 50% to an LGBTQIA+ charity.
Are there any benefits?
Reiki lacks vigorous scientific support for its effectiveness, but there is growing anecdotal evidence of:
-
- Relaxation: Many patients feel a deep sense of relaxation during and after sessions.
- Reduced Anxiety: Some individuals experience lower anxiety levels, particularly in stressful situations.
- Emotional Well-being: patients often report improved emotional states and a sense of peace.
- Pain Relief: some patients claim to have experienced a decrease in pain after receiving Reiki.
From a biological perspective, focused attention of a Reiki practitioner helps shift the patient from a sympathetic state (fight-or-flight) to a parasympathetic state (rest-and-digest). This shift may be associated with lower cortisol levels, improved heart rate variability, and a strengthened immune response, which may support the efficacy of conventional medical interventions.
Some patients may find Reiki helpful as part of their overall supportive care, particularly when coping with stress, illness, or medical treatment.
Why I don’t charge for Reiki?
As there is no scientific evidence to support Reiki, I do not charge a set rate for a Reiki treatment, I do however know my own experience with Reiki and the benefit it has provided for myself and others, and I truly feel it is a useful adjunct to western medical care. Therefore I ask patients to pay what they can or what they feel the session is worth (50% of payments are donated to the LGBTQIA+ charity Stowarzyszenie Miłość Nie Wyklucza https://mnw.org.pl/).
