About Me
My name is Edward Bateman. I am a British-trained, English-speaking osteopath based in Gdańsk, Poland. I offer consultations exclusively in English, making me a trusted choice for expats, international residents, foreign students, and English-speaking professionals across the Trójmiasto region, including Gdańsk, Sopot, and Gdynia.
Why I Became an Osteopath
I trained at the prestigious British School of Osteopathy in London, where I earned my Masters in Osteopathy (M.Ost). Since then, I have worked clinically for over 15 years, first in the UK and now here in Gdańsk. I chose osteopathy because I believe the body works as a whole. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, I look at the bigger picture, and that approach makes a real difference to my patients.
My Qualifications & Training
In addition to my Masters, I have completed postgraduate study in several specialist areas. These include medical acupuncture, Pilates (mat work), somatic movement therapy, myofascial release, and functional movement analysis (Gray Institute 3DMAPS®). As a result, I can draw on a broad range of techniques and tailor each treatment specifically to you.
I am fully registered with and a member of:
- General Osteopathic Council (GOsC): registration number 8536
- British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS)
How I Work
I regularly treat patients with back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, joint problems, sports injuries, and pregnancy-related discomfort. Whether your issue is long-standing or sudden, my goal is always the same: to help your body recover as efficiently as possible.
In practice, I combine hands-on treatment with a personalised rehabilitation plan. This dual approach helps to reduce pain now and limit future issues by addressing compensatory movement patterns before they become entrenched. I place a strong emphasis on education. I believe that understanding what is happening in your body is just as important as the treatment itself. Therefore, I give every patient clear explanations, practical exercises, and coping strategies, so that you build confidence in your movement and rely on me as little as possible over time.
What to Wear
Comfortable clothing is recommended for appointments. A sports bra or vest top with leggings or shorts works well. This allows me to assess how your body moves and makes hands-on treatment more straightforward.
